On the linguistics of English side it was helpful to me, especially since I have to do quite a bit of undergraduate teaching on the English bachelor programme here in Tromsø (although not so far on anything historical). You and I also have two books in common for the year: Buried Giant, and The Fifth Season. I loved the former, and I thought the latter was pretty good too. My only gripe with The Fifth Season is that I was a little underwhelmed by the emotional (lack of) intelligence and unsubtlety of the main characters. Mostly Syenite. But then again I usually read high brow fiction, so this was a rare foray for me into science fiction/fantasy. I was tempted into the genre by having read the first four Earthsea books by Le Guin. I thought those were brilliant! No lack of subtlety there. I actually had no idea that my own book was on your list until I got to it. Thanks for reading it, and thanks for the word iconoclastic. That was the intention.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02948668339394316663noreply@blogger.com
